Shaping Education For The Future

Welcome to my site, you are visitor number

My name is Geoff Dean and this website has been designed to offer you information about the sorts of education consultancy work I can provide to support teachers and their schools.

It is my goal to help teachers make classrooms creative sites of endeavour and exploration. I believe that all children really do want to learn, and I want to encourage that learning to be relevant, purposeful and fun. Education is changing and will be very different in only a few years. Schools need to anticipate how they might soon differ from today and control the way they will approach the future. ‘Shaping Education’ is meant to be more than a rhetorical title

For over 10 years I was a secondary English teacher, in the meantime becoming a head of department, a school senior manager and, for the last 20 years, a Local Education Authority Adviser and Inspector in Oxfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Milton Keynes. Whilst my early professional life was spent in secondary schools, I have gained considerable experience in primary schools, through my attached adviser role and by leading literacy developments since 1997.

I am the author of six books, mostly dealing with English, literacy and more able pupils. At the inception of the National Literacy Strategy, I was commissioned to contribute articles for the handbook about more able pupils; I have also been published by a number of subject magazines and on the Teachit site. I am a past Chair of the National Association of Advisers of English (NAAE), and currently serve on a body directed by Sue Hackman, the Senior Officer from the Prime Minister’s Standards Unit, called the National English Board. At various times in the last 10 years I have worked for QCA, and recently written materials for the G&T National Strategy. I am also a senior A level examiner.

I am happy to work with primary pupils, secondary students, teachers, parents and governors. I enjoy working alongside teachers in their classrooms – possibly monitoring specific areas of focus, and supporting through planning and making recommendations.

Please look around this site to discover whether I can be of service to you and your school.
